We work in partnership with the members of our community we call "Finders." These are the people who have huge hearts, pick up strays and care for them as though they are their own until they can be scanned for a microchip. Together we will achieve our goal and make "SCAN LOST ANIMALS" a buzzword in every household. We begin achieving our goal with every action we take and with every success story we share. We walk our talk with every happy ending.
VICTORY, VICTORY, THAT'S OUR CRY!

Scanning returns pets to their owners
My dog Buddy was lost on May 3, 2022, when the handyman left the gate open. He's chipped and registered. Whoever has Buddy has not had him scanned. Some people don't know about microchips or scanning. They care for found animals thinking they are helping the dog while grieving owners are helpless. Buddy's loss is the driving force behind Scan Lost Animals, Inc. Our vision is to get all found animals scanned as quickly as possible to return to their owners.
We received a call from a person who thought they found Buddy. He has unique identifiers and once we realized it wasn't Buddy, the caller disclosed he couldn't keep the dog because it was found at a nursing home where animals are not allowed. We offered to foster the dog until the owners were located. We took him to the Humane Society of the Desert, had him scanned and found a chip. The dog had been lost for two years. Poppy is now home with his owners.
Our little 7-pound, 15.5-year-old Yorkie was in a deep depression with severe separation anxiety as a result of Buddy being lost. We met Titus at the shelter and adopted him on a trial basis to see if he fit in our home and liked small dogs. There were serious alpha issues, and Titus was returned a week later. Some stories have a happy ending for shelter rescues. Titus was adopted and we provided his DNA report to the new owners. He will make a lifelong companion.
Several friends contacted us about this stray dog. We followed up with the person who found him in Indio, CA. and drove to his location to help her catch him. He was scanned and no chip was found. We fostered him trying to locate the owners. Over 150 attempts and no owners were found. He's been chipped and rehomed. His adoption will be finalized soon. He's in a loving home, groomed, loved and well fed. Some stories have a happy ending for strays.
Friends thought this could be Buddy. We spoke to the people who had found this happy dog, and it was a girl. She was scanned, and the people who scanned her said she was chipped but not registered. I was given the microchip number, located the AVID chip on their website, the chip number was indeed registered. Her name is ROSEBUD, and she was reunited with her owners in a matter of a few hours. Happy endings always give me goosebumps. Become a Volunteer to find out for yourself.
Rochelle called today. She was fostering two lost pugs found in Indio and needed them scanned. She was unable to drive to the shelter for scanning. We made a few phone calls and located a volunteer to assist Rochelle. When we returned her call to arrange scanning much to our delight Rochelle had already located the owners and the dogs were reunited. Sometimes it takes a village, and our goal is to reunite lost animals with their owners. Thanks Rochelle for all you do for the community.
Received a message from Cali at the Humane Society to scan a lost dog at Mission Lakes Country Club. The dog was saved from a pack of coyotes chasing it. Rafael, the MLCC employee was caring for the dog. He was scanned, a chip was found. We contacted the registrar and the dog had been surrendered four years prior. With help from the former owner, we located the current owner. Kuma is now home, and we asked the owner to please register Kuma under his name in case this ever happens again.
We received a call from Kristi. She caught a dog she'd been tracking for a while. They came over to get scanned. As you can see this little guy was completely covered in old, matted dreadlocks indicating he'd been lost for a very long time. His eyes were completely covered, and he could barely walk his hair was so badly matted. We cleaned him up the best we could. No chip was found. The pup was a senior and she named him LUCKY. Looking for the owners while safe and lots of love at Kristi's.
Meet Buddy-Spot! A few months ago, our Angel MaLia started tracking, feeding and finally captured this stray. Ironically his name was Buddy. Not chipped. Extensive owner search. We fostered him until we knew he’d fit into our home as a family member. He’s a perfect fit. He and Poco get along like they’ve known each other forever. They sleep together, share toys and food. Please say hello to our latest addition to the pack. We’re all waiting for our lost Buddy to return, too.
Karen from Bronco Bijou Ranch Pet Rescue called us about a lost dog found in Desert Hot Springs needing to be scanned. In the morning we touched base, Karen picked up the lost puppy and had it scanned, but there wasn't a microchip. Several posts were made on social media sites. The owner saw the post on Nextdoor and he was reunited with his owner on September 10, 2022. We stress the importance of having pets chipped. BeBe could've been home 4 days sooner had he been chipped & registered.
We received a call from a friend in Thousand Palms who found this well-behaved girl on her morning walk. She had a chip, but the owner couldn't be found. The dog's name is Phoebe. Weeks passed; and on September 22, the owner was located through friends who recognized our posts on social media. Phoebe is doing well and is currently being fostered by a loving family until she can be reunited with her owner. It's always a happy ending when the lost pet is taken care of no matter what!
Saw this lost dog on the DHS Lost & Found Group seeking its owner. Volunteered to scan it and talked with the people who had the friendly dog. I was on my way out the door to go to the location when I checked my messages and discovered the dog's owners were located. Every pet and animal should be chipped and registered. You never know when your beloved pet will get lost. If you want information about microchipping your pets, please contact us. We're here to help.
Lead Volunteer Scanner Chris met with Jake and lost dog "Primo" in North Palm Springs today. Jake named him Primo, and he's chipped, but not registered. Chip implanted by Jurupa Valley Riverside County Shelter. Chris will contact shelter and ask them to contact the owner. If owner cannot be found, Jake will begin the adoption process. In the meantime, dog is safe, and Jake is fostering the dog until owners can be located. No matter which way we look at it, this story has a happy ending.
Scanner Volunteer Angie takes a proactive approach with her volunteering. She scours social media hunting for people who find lost animals every morning. Today she contacted a woman online who found this thirsty dog. Angie met the woman who found the dog, and the dog was not chipped. The dog's finder started to look around the neighborhood. It wasn't long before the owner of the dog was located. Angie shared the importance of microchipping & registering pets with the woman. Lesson learned!
Rochelle scanned this pug and because there wasn't a chip, she fostered him until his owners were located. The owners saw him on Pawboost.com and contacted us immediately. The reunion of Chester and his family was awesome. "I really wanted to cry. That little boy will be going home soon," said Rochelle. He had been missing for nearly two months after being stolen from the family yard. The owners are extremely happy to be taking him home and YES! They will be getting him microchipped!
Volunteer Angie was contacted today to scan a lost dog in Indio. This beautiful puppy was microchipped. The owners were contacted and will be arranging a time to pick up their lost dog with the person who found their dog. This is a perfect example of the importance of microchipping your pets and registering them in case they get lost. Being reunited with your lost pet as quickly as possible is our goal.
Volunteer Raquel scanned these two little darlings yesterday in Mecca, and they didn't have a chip. Today, Volunteer Angie made sure both dogs were safe and took them to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. Now, they'll be microchipped. If you're interested in fostering or adopting, please contact the shelter. Our SLA Volunteers are the BEST! Thanks for all you do to help save lost animals.
Volunteer Angie is always on top of things. She located a person who requested SLA visit and scan a found dog. Director Chris arrived, scanned and no chip was located. Dog was found on Sycamore in Desert Hot springs CA 92241. Walked up to Armando’s house where they were sitting outside last night and hung around. Armando locked him inside his yard until he could get him scanned. Smart Samaritan! Pyrenees now at DHS Animal Control. Great teamwork by Scan Lost Animals Volunteers.
Volunteers Calie and Heather are a great team always working to reunite a lost animal with its owners. This beauty was lost and found by a compassionate man in Cathedral City, CA. You can tell by the look on the dog's face he wanted to go home. Scanned. Chipped. Owner located. Reunited same day. That's how we create goosebumps and happy endings. If you'd like to become a volunteer to help lost animals be reunited with their owners, please contact us today.
SLA received a text about a found dog in Desert Hot Springs. We were in the vicinity and responded promptly. The little darling was chipped, but not registered. We posted on social media and located the owner's phone number. Brookie was reunited with his owners within a few hours of being reported lost. The finder, Marilyn, was thrilled, and the owner's tears of joy spoke for themselves. Want to create happy memories? Volunteer with us today.
Social Media is one of the best places to look when you've lost or found a stray animal. We were tagged in a comment by Jose and responded promptly to help the finder, Sendy, locate this beautiful boy's owners. No Chip. No Registration. And it was Sunday morning. This became a huge team effort involving many volunteers, neighbors, friends and local facilities. Palm Springs Animal Shelter Intake saw the adoptability of this boy. He was so happy to have been found. Call (760) 416-5718.
Neighbor Trudy is our resident dog magnet. She seems to find and attract lost dogs often. We read her post on Nextdoor and responded promptly with our contact information. The owner saw our phone number and called us immediately. Scan Lost Animals assisted Trudy to reunite the sweet little Yorkie boy Charlie with his owners within a few hours. He is chipped. Not registered, but the implant Riverside County contacted Kimberly and Ron immediately. Everyone was so happy. Joyous occasion.

We love making goosebumps and happy endings.

Volunteer Angie met with the finder of these beautiful dogs and scanned them for a microchip. No chip was found. Finder could no longer keep the dogs and located a foster to temporarily hold them until the owners could be located. The desert area has a very large population of lost animals. Our shelters and animal control facilities are all full. We are grateful for everyone's support to help lost animals. The first thing to do when an animal is found is to have it scanned for a chip.

My dog Buddy was lost on May 3, 2022, when the Handyman left the gate open. He's chipped and registered. Whoever has Buddy needs to do the right thing and have him scanned. The sad part about this story is some people don't know about microchips or scanning. They take lost animals and care for them as their own thinking they are doing the right thing while grieving owners are left helpless. Buddy's loss is the driving force behind Scan Lost Animals, Inc. Our Vision is to get all lost animals scanned for a chip and returned to their owners. Our Goal is to make "SCAN LOST ANIMALS" a buzzword in every household nationwide.
